Our community sports programme has been lead for many years by sport and physical education coach Nceba Jonase; he obtained his training at programmes by Love Life and more recently with Goodsport, our partner NGO working at Ukhanyo primary school.
Working from the hard surface sports area at the primary school, Nceba has developed and coached rugby, netball, basketball and football teams and they have done well in the many tournaments they enter throughout the Western Cape.
With no grass or AstroTurf on which to play in the township, the teams must often travel to practice and tournaments are, obviously, always away matches. This lack of facilities makes the teams’ and Nceba’s achievements all the more impressive.
Nceba is widely respected in Masiphumelele for his work with young people and sport could make a huge difference to their well-being.
The current programme is part funded by the City of Cape Town to whom we are very grateful. We would like to provide more funding to allow Nceba to do more. We would like to build an AstroTurf sports pitch which would make an enormous difference to the township. We are busy trying to raise the money to make this happen – please don’t hesitate to contact us if you would like to help.
